HOOK SIZE: 4.5mm

SIZE: 36 x 43 inches

Granny squares adapted from Carseat Blanket by Mary Ellen Wells and Sunburst Granny Squares by Priscilla Hewitt

COLOUR A:

ch4, slip stitch to join

Row 1: ch4 (counts as first treble crochet), 15 tc in centre……16 treble crochet total.

sl st to join. Fasten off.

COLOUR B:

Row 2: Attach with sl st between any tc, ch3, [puff stitch, ch1] between each treble crochet……….16 [puff stitch, ch1] total.

sl st to join. Fasten off.

COLOUR C:

Row 3: Attach with sl st in any ch1 space, ch3, [4dc bobble stitch, ch2] in each ch1 space……16 [bobble, ch2] total.

Sl st to join. Fasten off.

WHITE YARN:

If you intend to use the “joining as you go” method, then don’t start row 4, until you have familiarized yourself with the joining technique: http://attic24.typepad.com/weblog/joining-asyougo-sqaures.html

Row 4: Attach with sl st in any ch2 space, ch4 (to count as first treble crochet), 2 tc in same space, (*3 double crochet in next ch2 space, 3 half double crochet in next ch2 space, 3 double crochet in next ch2 space*, [3 tc, ch3, 3 tc] in next ch2 space for corner).

Repeat between( )s x 2, then repeat from * to * x 1

3 tc in same space as beginning tc, ch3, join with slip stitch to the top of the beginning ch4.

Fasten off.

BORDER:

(join with sl st and turn work at end of each round; ch3 at start of each round – counts as first dc)

Row 1: Double crochet all the way around – 5 dcs in each corner

Row 2: [1 dc, ch1] all the way around – corner = [1 dc, ch1] x 3

Row 3 to 5: 3 rows of double crochet all the wy around – 5 dcs in each corner

Row 6: [1 dc, ch1] all the way around – corner = [1 dc, ch1] x 3

[yo, insert in st, draw up a loop] x 3

yo and draw through 6 loops

yo and draw through remaining 2 loops

4dc Bobble Stitch:

Yo, insert in st, draw up a loop, Yo, draw through 2 loops on hook;

[Yo, insert hook in same st, draw up a loop, Yo, draw through 2 loops] x 3

Yo, draw through last 5 loops on hook, ch1 to complete stitch
